St. Pius X opened in 1973 as a single stream K to 2 Catholic school situated at the corner of East and North Street in West Dubbo. The foundation Principal was a sister of Mercy – Sr. Margaret Carmichael.
Sister Marie Terese Slavin took over as Principal from Sister Carmichael while St. Pius was still an Infants school.
Monsignor McNamee then decreed that St. Pius become a K to 6 school with Mrs Betty Fahy the first lay Principal at the helm. The extensions were officially blessed and opened by the most Reverend Bishop Thomas of Bathurst on 18th April, 1982.
Mr Maurie Ryan followed Mrs Fahy and then Mr Blaise Madden became Principal till 1997. Numbers fluctuated between 130 to 200.
Mrs Heather Irwin became Principal in 1998 until 2019 when she retired.
Katrina Isbester is currently the Principal 2020 being her first year at the school our current enrolment numbers are 189.
As we enter the Technological era the school is keeping up with the modern trends in education. A new I.T. Centre was officially opened and blessed by Father Paul Devitt, the Parish Priest of Dubbo on Sunday 4th May, 2003.
The school prides itself on the high standard of education as Policies are constantly reviewed to keep up with syllabuses that are being introduced.
The pupils of St. Pius X are recognised for their good manners and courteous behaviour. Students, staff and parents live the motto “Living is Giving”.
The Parents and Friends Committee are a very supportive group who work extremely hard to provide resources for the school.
